Built in 1932 in and opening on July 8, 1932 in Paterson, NJ Hinchcliffe Stadium was known for hosting track and field, football, baseball, entertainment events, auto and motorcycle racing, and boxing. The stadium was also known for hosting Negro league baseball. Larry Doby, who broke the American League color barrier in 1947, grew up playing football and baseball at Hinchcliffe. The stadium's primary use was for Paterson High School sports. The stadium was first municipally owned but once the school began to use it they took responsibility for it. Due to the decline of the school system in Paterson it took away from maintenance resources for the stadium. It fell into further neglect in the 1990s and closed at the end of 1996-97, sitting abandoned for many years. In 2022 renovation of the stadium finally began and the stadium reopened in May 2023.
