The Homowack Lodge was a resort apart of the Catskills Borscht Belt that flourished from the 1920s through 1970s. Built in 1920 in Wurtboro, NY by Sam Meyerson who was the first Jewish resident of the area. It started out small but eventually the hotel included an indoor, outdoor pool, ice-skating rinks, golf course, tennis courts, bowling alley, bar and live music venue. In 1959 and 1964 the resort had two fires causing massive damage to the hotel. Like many of the other hotels in the Catskills Borscht Belt, Homowack declined and eventually had to be sold in 2006. The new owners could not keep it up to code and it was abandoned in 2009.
